GEORGEs NEW LADY and the BEDSIDE white nightstand

Hanging out just down the road at one of those Saturday morning get togethers
*AKA* yard sale
Shes was a cheap date at only $2.70

With the rainbow of colors and vintage feel we have decided to finish the kitchen in,
she was destined to come home with us.

This is the before picture of the now COFFEE STATION.
Thats an old AC unit that started to smell very odd the last 2 yrs so it was removed.

Transition Period,
with the old coffee maker and vintage printers stamp drawer.

NEW and IMPROVED
She greets George every morning with his new coffee maker
and hot H2o system, for my tea.

On another note:

I finished off the perfect little bedside table.

Smooth white creamy finish.

White flower knobs on 3 drawers.

Its a great table made of solid pine.

This time around I didnt have to put feet on, it came this way.

Lets All Play in New Jersey

This weekend (February 25 - 27) the Woodworking Shows will be coming to Somerset, NJ. As the closest show to my home on sunny Long Island, I make it a point to attend every year. Though I cant say its always been the best of shows, it promises to be good this year (check out the floor plan).

While I believe the show is under new ownership (I could well be wrong on this point), its the people that Im really looking forward to. Ive been tweeting a bit lately with Andy Chidwick and Im really looking forward to meeting him. A woodworker we all know (who shall remain nameless) has been goading me to bust Chuck Benders chops on his behalf (in a playful manner, of course). Roland Johnson of Fine Woodworking will be there too. And of course, Alan Z., Wilbur Pan and TomP (and hopefully others) of the Wood Talk Online community will be there. Thats really only naming a few of the many who will be making this a great event.

Ye old QR code.
I think Ill be there on Friday, with intentions to get back to Long Island before evening rush hour. Ill be wandering around with my standard Penultimate Woodshop t-shirt with the giant QR code on the back. Please say hi if youre there and have a good time at the Woodworking Shows. Also, stop by the Woodpecker booth. They dont endorse me, but do they ever make sweet layout and measuring tools. There booth is where Ill probably be dropping the most cash.

What vendor cant you stay away from?

p.s. - Ive managed to score some tickets to the show. Please let me know in the comments if youd like one and Ill do my best to share them.

Time to start a new project

Looks like this project is going to be on hold for a while, we are now talking about a major bathroom renovation...
Like all kitchens, ours needs more storage space and better organization. Although we have a pantry, it doesnt provide a place for brooms, mops, step stool, etc. So we need a broom closet too. This eventuality has been planned for in our remodeling of our kitchen as seen in this drawing of the current status of the neat area I am going to attack.

There will be three cabinets above the fridge, one below the existing counter along with a drawer, a broom closet to the other side, and a slant front cabinet between the new cabinets and the existing upper cabinets.

And of course the fridge will fill the large vacant area. Im also adding 4 sliding shelves to the island cabinet across from this area, but dont think I need to draw that up.

Installing my new vise

I bought a vise at Harbor Freight with another 20% off coupon.  Its another one of those small projects that
ended up being more work than I expected.
Its not the best one in the world but it is definitely better than no vise.  I hate having no vises....

The clamping mechanism ended up being a little smaller than I expected.

I placed the vice in position and marked where the lower clamp needed to go in.

The lower mech is 1" wide so I used a 1.25" Forstner bit to make a hole.

I opened the bottom with my cordless jigsaw.

I tried to square it off with my jigsaw and then a file.  I put a corded jigsaw on my Christmas list along with a dado set for my tablesaw.

This is what it looks like from the inside.

I screwed in a piece of 2x4 to brace the part where I cut and to have extra support for where I screw vice down into the top of the workbench.

I predrilled the mounting holes down into the extra 2x4 brace.

Not neccessarily my cleanest install but it will do the job.

I pre drilled the holes into the 2x4 brace but not into the the workbench itself.  This bit shattered when the screw hit the workbench wood.  I drilled out the remaining 3 holes into the workbench and had no more issues.

Installed and ready for use.  I am debating on whether I want to mount some pieces of wood to the inside of the vice or not.  I will probably end up doing it just because I get bored.
